LATTS: Laboratoire Techniques Territoires Société (English presentation)

LATTS (Laboratoire Techniques Territoires Société) is a renowned international laboratory for the study of interrelations infrastructure-society, both North and South (Paris-Est University). It associates Social Sciences, Economics and Engineering. It is part of the LABEX Urban Futures, a Cluster of Excellence based at Paris-Est University and dedicated to urban issues, with a strong emphasis on the collaboration of engineering sciences, environment sciences and social sciences.
Professor of Geography Sylvy Jaglin will co-manage the scientific track of the project, which expends the TERMOS / GOUVENUS project (2010-2013). She led several researches on the socio-technical governance of urban services, including electricity, in Africa (Jaglin 2016; Jaglin 2017; Dubresson et Jaglin 2016; Jaglin 2013). She supervises the thesis of Mélanie Rateau (starting 2016) on electrification in Benin and Nigeria. She is also supervising Emmanuelle Guillou’s PhD, funded jointly by the firm Hydroconseil and the National Agency for Research and Technology on mini networks in two African countries.
Marie-Helene Zerah (IRD, currently seconded to India) will work with LATTS in the project. In addition to her own research on the electrification of Dehli’s outskirt in Haryana State, she will supervise a post-doc who will do research on small in India (Bihar). Leading socio-economist of energy research director Olivier Coutard will provide his expertise during the workshops.
